I very much so enjoyed this movie. I cried throughout half of it. Living in the U.S. I can't say I'll ever experience what it's truly like to live in a heavily dictated country. But that doesn't mean I'm uneducated about places that are. I truly feel sorry for people who have to live like this today. It's unfair, & its injustice. I really resinated with Nam chul when he told inspector Kim that, "Peace cannot be established because of stupid people like you." Thinking on this statement, its means something deeper. Also that this could easily be applied worldwide. Overall, watching this movie really makes you appreciate what you have, & that life is so so precious. And should NEVER be taken for granted. It may not be anytime soon & might be nearly impossible, but I still pray for world peace to come someday.A North Korean man accidently ends up in the South. He is then interrogated for possibilities of being a spy under South Korean captivity . Despite all temptations and reasons. He only wants to go back to his family. But only later that he realizes there is no where that he belongs. One of the greatest things I love about watching korean movies when it talks about the north and the south is there are no true good guys or bad guys. You often hear how bad the North is but then you see the reality of how harsh the South can be as well. A civilian in general just wants to live a happy peaceful life with their family, but everything comes with a price. freedom might not be truly free, but its a lot better to have more than noneThis is not meant to be an "entertaining"movie, it is meant to be a realistic portrayal of the harsh division between North and South Korea and what happens to those that dare to defect, even if it was an accidental event that they could in any way make into a defection. Well portrayed realism, well acted. Worth a watch if for nothing else but to get educated about what really is happening in this world. The movie may not be the Best filming, but the story and paradox that this simple fisherman is caught in gives great thought to the many different personality's and beliefs systems. Coupled with their suspicious anxieties, a tragic scenario is heavily set upon this simple fisherman who just wants to be with his family,For us living in a communist country like Vietnam, we were not surprised of life in North Korea vs. South Korea when watching this movie. Vietnam had similar story like the two Koreas, except for the South we lost the war because US betrayed and abandoned Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam). We, Southerners, were mistreated by northern Vietnamese communists. More and more people living in the free world like US should watch this type movie more to prevent socialism and communism spreading to this country, USA.The good parts is that it’s a very believable portrayal of North Korea and South Korean police investigations. I believe it’s really like that based on the portrayal. But this movie is just too sad and depressing. It’s a losing movie, I won’t spoil it but the ending is not a happy one as well. I skipped a lot because it was so slow and boring as well as frustrating. I hope S and N Korea can quickly become friends because I believe these things really happen in real life and it just sucks too much. This movie shows the suffering of an average family in Korea due to the senseless division of the nation. The story of two nations serving self-righteously serving the egoistic interests pf their controlling elite and in the process destroying human life. Well acted and directed. A powerful performance by the doomed protagonist.
